THE HISTORY
The Barossa Valley is South Australia's best known wine region and home to the largest wine companies in Australia. The landscape is interwoven with the unmistakable presence of rich Germanic/Silesian culture and heritage, which has made the region so special.
THE TOUR
At 9am you will begin a personally escorted journey that includes a city orientation tour. You travel through the scenic Torrens Gorge to the Barossa Valley. The Torrens Gorge is a natural chasm carved out of the Adelaide Hills by the River Torrens.
Please note: if guests are picked up and returned to Wine regions tour will be tailored accordingly. Guests pick-up is 10am drop-off is 4pm.
After consultation with the individual clients touring, we tailor make the tour to meet client needs, based on the tour itinerary below.
- Tasting of fine wines at smaller winery’s such as Trevor Jones/ Kellermeister, who combines a mixture of old and new world wine styles.
- Travel over Jacobs Creek to visit some smaller wine cellars, full of rustic charm who make wines in the traditional Barossa method, these include Rockfords and Charlie Melton. We may include visits to other small wineries and meet well-known wine identities.
- Stop for a stroll in the German town of Tanunda with time to discover the small shops, many of which specialise in locally made crafts.
- Before lunch we take the picturesque drive up to Menglers Hill for an unsurpassed view over the entire Barossa Valley. We continue into historic Angaston - the more "English" village of the Barossa. Taking time at Angas Park which specializes in fine dried local fruits, or the local Cheese Maker who has won many awards for their farm cheeses.
Lunch will be alfresco under the vines or at Vintners restaurant just out of Angaston. - For those more seriously into wine our next stop might be *Henschkes winery in Keyneton, a fifth generation German winery producing outstanding wines that incorporate the best of old world and state of the art winemaking or we may visit the historic Yalumba, the biggest family run winery in Australia.
- If time permits we may visit small boutique producers such as Torbreck, Rolf Binder or Two Hands. A visit to Maggie Beer Farm shop is a must for food lovers.
- As an alternative we may travel through the picturesque villages of the Adelaide Hills to Hahndorf, the German village and taste the fine wines produced by Hahndorf Hill winery.

Day 1
At 9.30 you will begin a personally escorted journey which includes a city orientation tour. We travel through the scenic Torrens Gorge to the Barossa Valley. The Torrens Gorge is a natural chasm carved out of the Adelaide Hills by the River Torrens. We travel over the Jacobs Creek for our first tasting of the fine wines at the Grant Burge winery.
We visit the Rockford wine cellars, a small winery with rustic charm, making wines in traditional Barossa methods. We will also include visits to other small wineries and meet well known wine identities.
We stop for a stroll in the German town of Tanunda with time to discover the small shops, many of which specialise in crafts made by the locals. Lunch will be alfresco under the vines or at Vintners restaurant just out of Angaston.
After lunch we take the picturesque drive up to Menglers Hill for an unsurpassed view over the entire Valley. We continue into historic Angaston - the more English of the villages in the Barossa. Taking time to visit Angas Park dried fruits producers.
Out next stop will be Henschkes winery in Keyneton. This fifth generation German winery produces outstanding wines that incorporate the best of olde world and state of the art winemaking. The Winemakers Stephen and Prue Henschke were recently awarded International Winemaker of the Year.
Overnight at charming Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the Adelaide Hills.
Day 2
Next morning, we begin with a visit to the historic German village of Hahndorf.
We can taste the cheeses from Woodside cheesewrights while tasting the fine wines produced by Hillstowe wines from their Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale vineyards.
We travel through the Hills to Hardys Chateau Reynella winery. This winery has magnificent gardens and ground s which we will stroll through plus wonderful wines to taste. Chateau Reynella is also the historical site where the first wine was made in South Australia.
We then travel through the scenic Hills and the picturesque town of Clarendon to Coriole winery. Coriole ‘s cellar door is a beautiful little ironstone cellar surrounded by magnificent views and gardens, they produce an outstanding range of regional wines with some exceptional wines styles unique to their winery.
Next we visit the Olive Grove which specialises in excellent olive oil and kalamata olives all from locally grown olives. We can do a tasting and learn about the processing of the olives.
We visit D’arenberg winery which feature a range of outstanding and innovative wines made by Chester Osbourne from this 4th generation family run winery.
Lunch will be at the charming Salopian Inn restaurant . After lunch we visit the rustic Wirra Wirra winery, one of the premium wine producers in the area. Here we will taste their fine wines and also tour though this state of the art winery.
In the afternoon if time permits, we will visit the new boutique Fox Creek winery, that is producing some exceptional wines under the guidance of winemaker, Sparky Marquis. There are many options if we are to make it more of a gourmet food tour, we could include a visit to Medlow Fine Gels and Chocolates where we can sample their outstanding hand made chocolates and gels. Options include visiting local artists or continue to taste more of the fine local wines. The area also abounds with almonds, flower farms , herbs, venison, yabbies and cheese producers which we can visit or else take a leisurely journey back to Adelaide via the Hills, visiting charming historic towns like Willunga an old slate mining town. We may also chose to return via the magnificent south coast.
