Jimmy Watson
The Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy is the most prestigious and sought after wine award in Australia. The trophy is a memorial to the late Jimmy Watson who established the iconic Jimmy Watson's Wine Bar in Lygon Street, Carlton, a suburb of Melbourne. The trophy is awarded annually at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show to the producer of the best one or two year old, dry, red wine. -
Coonawarra
Home to more than 20 cellar doors, it gets rave reviews from wine writers. Respected writer and wine judge Len Evans once described it as "the Bordeaux of Australia." Coonawarra has won more Jimmy Watson trophies for Australia's best one-year-old red wine than any other wine district – since 1977 the tally is a very impressive 12 wins. -

Coonawarra has a reputation for producing some of the finest red wines in Australia. This is the most acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon area of Australia!! The local winemakers consider one of Australia's most important wine awards, the Jimmy Watson trophy, as their own. There are over 25 wineries in the area, most are multi-award winning wine producers. The regions famous stretch of terra rossa soil lies on top of limestone and with its abundance of under ground water and cool climate for much of the year, results in outstanding wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon.
